Re: Mountain House foods
You might try here......these are full case only prices, and you take 20% off the shown price when you "join" as a lifetime member for 15 bucks.

Re: Mountain House foods
It seems to be a fair deal for a gold eagle, if all you want are entrees.
Personally, I'd take that money and instead of buying a packaged deal, make up a more balanced purchase that included breakfasts, lunches and suppers. Just as an aside, I've dealt with Nitro-Pak on several occasions and they are a very good company to deal with although I think you can sometimes get better prices by shopping around more. |
Re: Mountain House foods
Always use google and check the other threads here. I saw some pretty good prices in one of them.

Re: Mountain House foods
nitro pak has been in bidness for a long time. thats a good sign. better to pay a little more for fresher product than get some stale crap that's being sold cut rate.
I've had various mountain house products and most of them were palatable. I think the tomato based dishes hold up well. |
Re: Mountain House foods
Everyone here has a store of food, right.
I look to add this to that store. In the event, my dog will help in eating the mountain house food. http://site.animalden.com/images/cj/mousbrit.jpg |
Re: Mountain House foods
Since this is an active thread let me ask, which is best (for whatever reason), freeze-dried or dehydrated?

Re: Mountain House foods
Apples and oranges question.
Freeze dried has longer shelf life, (#10 cans 25-30yr 'best used by date'....and probably good for way more ) and is often a fully cooked product, individually or complete entrees....add hot water, and your in business. Usually way more expensive per calorie. Dehydrated much cheaper, but may have far less shelf life....however, raw foods like grains and beans do have a heck of long shelf life if stored under proper conditions. I've opend non-fat dried milk in #10 cans with oxygen absorbers that are 10 years old and tasted fine. Wheat, beans, etc, keep in cool, dry location in a sealed container with a mylar bag with oxygen absorber or nitrogen packed, I convinced would be good forever. So, the answer is "depends on what you are looking for...." |
Re: Mountain House foods
I just squirted out some dijon mustard on my brat that had an expiration date in 2003 and it tasted fine. Been hiding in the back of the workplace fridge behinds some pops. it was yellow and stuff, looked ok. :D

Re: Mountain House foods
The best prices I have found are at Vitacost. They don't have much variety though. I ordered my stuff and it came in a few days. No delays like on amazon and other places.
